Buying, selling or refinancing land on a First Nations reserve? We can help.

Transferring leasehold land on a First Nations reserve is quite different from transferring freehold land through the Land Title Office.  We have the knowledge and ability to ensure that this happens efficiently and accurately.

A few important differences

First Nations properties have a few important differences from freehold properties. These differences can include:

  • First Nations properties can be managed through a wide range of registries, including federal registries operated by Indigenous Services Canada, or the registries run by individual bands such as Westbank First Nations
  • some First Nations use the Indian Lands Registration Manual, and some have developed their own regulations and rules
  • the ownership interest you buy or sell is a leasehold interest – an interest you own in the land for a set period of time, not forever

Call us – we’d be happy to help you with your First Nations property!
